The renowned fashion illustrator and celebrity portraitist, Alvaro was a protege of Antonio Lopez, the Factory icon and illustrator.  Like Warhol, Alvaro has transitioned from a commercial illustrator to poignant a fine artist. When Alvaro would hang out at the factory as a youth, Warhol would always be telling him how “fab” everything was including Alvaro’s art. With a youthful tear he asked Lopez how come Andy thinks his art is like a laundry detergent!!! Alvaro is considered a primary interest of ARTETERIA, not only for his talent, but his continual connection with many areas of interest to Warhol.

As a young art student, Keith Haring explored the outer boroughs of NYC and the neighboring Lower East Side. He became infatuated with LA II’s style and had Fab Five Freddy introduce them.  Angel,of Puerto Rican heritage was only 14 at the time. LA II would extensively collaborate with Haring for the next six years. Haring always treated him fairly and split all proceeds with him from all collaborations. Haring was famous for his clean lines, but the psychedelic lines that filled out much of Haring’s work was solidly LA II.  AngeI’s story after Haring’s death becomes more complicated and deals with race, privilege and reflects both the joys and torments Haring candidly wrote about in his writings about his own success.

Josh Griffin is a young artist from the Bronx. At 24, he continues to develop his own style based on his knowledge of the passion of his predecessors. In addition to being a talented artist, Griffin’s inclusion at ARTETERIA is also a nod to the style and charisma that many of this lineage reflected in their own lives.

A published art-therapist, writer and painter, Diane (Fausek) Steinbach has been intuitively painting for decades. 

With a focus on the therapeutic value of art -making, she spent 15+ years working with Senior Artists, and rehabilitation clients, and now focuses on creating unique and thought-provoking images herself.

Offering online-lessons and consultations, she continues to work with artists and non-artists to clarify their message in a creative way.

REST IN POWER. Tim Vega, A peer of Keith Haring’s and the house artist for the influential club WETLANDS, as well as many bands including THE BLUES TRAVELERS. Tim was included in the show because of his immense talent, connection with Haring’s style, connection with the nightclub scene and to bring awareness to addiction. His father was the influential Puerto Rican poet and writer, Ed Vega. His mother Pat and sister the singer, Suzanne Vega are advocates for those suffering with substance dependence.
